Check out my latest article, appearing soon in the Aug. 2010 issue of Seventeen Mag!
Seventeen Magazine/April 2009' (Pages 92-93.)
One of my latest articles is based on Whitney Port's leg workout. She 'stars' in her own reality show called 'The City' which appears on MTV. Our workout is on pages 92-93, and is entitled 'Get Hot Legs'. (Now I see why most of the fitness magazines (exercise articles and routines) have such basic, brief, and simplistic information. It was difficult for me to get my point(s) across because of the limited space the editors allow, but they were great to work with and requested that we do something again together in the near future. Cool by me. ~D

" We have the power to transform our bodies; and the mind is the human machine's most powerful ally. A lot of people think that being fit is purely physical... not so." (BREATHING)" A positive and healthy mind can accomplish anything. Weight training and aerobic activities such as hiking, walking or jogging, biking, and stretching all contribute to stimulate the brain by replenishing it with clean oxygen and fresh energy, especially when deep breaths are taken in. During yoga, I sometimes envision the inhalations to be cleaning out any negative energy, thoughts, etc., which I purposely release on each exhale. I always leave refreshed and 'peaced out'. Couldn't we all benefit from cleansing the mind, body, and soul?" (RENEWAL) " The human body is always in motion. Even at rest, the cells are regenerating at a staggering pace. The mind is also constantly being renewed. When we think healthy, positive thoughts we set the course for our minds." (INTENSITY) " I tell my clients to envision targeted muscles involved as a 'sponge'. As the contraction occurs, they are to imagine they are squeezing or wringing out any junk (flab, fat, etc.), until all that is left is that rock-hard muscle underneath. It takes effort to squeeze all the water out of a sponge. The same effort is required in weight-training. The intensity is up to you. It's in your hands." (POWER) " Michael Jordan, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Thomas Edison all used the power of their minds to succeed and triumph. It took Mr. Edison 2,000 attempts to invent the light bulb. It may take you 2,000 push-ups, 2,000 crunches, or 2,000 hours of cardio to kick-start your body. Once you begin to see your body evolve... you'll forget all about those 2000 reps, I promise you. So stop idling. The time is now! Seize the day. "
Westside Today/May 2005, Body Language Section- Interview by Michael Allen (Pg.29)
M.A.- How often should you work out? " Three days is a conservative number. Now, if you do 2 days of weights and 2 days of cardio; 4 days ON versus 3 off-days (in a week) is a favorable ratio, so I really like to recommend (at least) 4 days to my clients. Anywhere from 35 minutes to an hour and 15 minutes (per day). " M.A.- What is the best exercise? " I believe the push-up is best exercise ever invented. Your (entire body) works on the push-up. My mom is 70-plus and she still does three sets of ten push-ups every day." M.A.- Why do people give up? " I think people get discouraged because they don't see immediate results; whereas what's really going on is inside the body. Beneath the skin, the organs, etc., are getting stronger, so internally your body is evolving. "
